Character Age: 54
Character Gender: Male
Original Canon
Canon Point: Post death.
Background:
When Kageyama Reiji was a young boy, his father was an amazing soccer player. Kageyama would often go to watch his dad's matches in person, completely captivated and amazed by his dad's plays. He was proud to be Kageyama Tougo's son, and he loved soccer, enough to want to play himself. That is, until a man named Endou Daisuke came along. Endou Daisuke led the only team that could rival Kageyama Tougo's, and his team had won the match between the two. Completely devistated at losing, Kageyama Tougo lost his will to keep playing. Everytime he was on the field, his team would loose. It was a pathetic sight to see, especially for his son. Eventually, one day, Tougo disappeared, leaving Reiji and his mother alone - the woman eventually dying of heartbreak. And that is what sparked the hatred and darkness in Reiji's heart

He grew up hating soccer, and hating others. When he was in junior high, he joined Raimon's soccer club, even though it was coached by the very man who ruined his life, Endou Daisuke. No, you could say that he joined because of Daisuke. And while he was on the team, he never got along with the others. He would tell them that teamwork is unnecessary, winning is everything. It didn't matter how you won, as long as you did. Daisuke tried to change his outlook, but to no avail. And one day, Kageyama put a trap on his team's bus, which supposedly killed Endou Daisuke and injured their soccer team. Though, the team was willing to crawl to the stadium so they could play if they had to, but before they could, Kageyama called the stadium telling them that the Inazuma Eleven forfeited the match. The whole team lost the will to play soccer after that, and that was the beginning of Reiji's life as a criminal.

Let's fast forward a bit, to when Kageyama was 48. He visited an orphanage daily, looking for a child to become his protege and one day, he found just the kid. Kidou Yuuto. He watched the little six year old play soccer with the other kids proudly. He was already exceptional at playing, and Kageyama knew that he was the one. So, he immediately recommended Yuuto to the Kidou family, knowing that such a bright boy would be able to handle the pressure of living up to the Kidou name. He raised Kidou almost as if he were his own son, and I would be lying to say that he didn't have a fatherly affection towards him. Though, Kageyama wasn't the nice guy Kidou thought he was, and it was apparent when he tried to do many things to stop the new Raimon from entering the soccer tournament. He went as far as dropping metal panes onto Raimon's half of the field with the intention of injuring the players. He would do anything to win, even if he had to kill the other team.

As you can guess, that didn't go well with the authorities and Kageyama was quickly taken into custody. Though, that didn't last long. Once he was out of the police's vision, he fled in hiding to start on his next plot. His next plot which would almost render children paralyzed. And, once again, he was almost caught by the police afterwards which brings me to my next point. He fled that time to Italy, and wore a disguise and a fake name, Mister. K, so he could start a soccer team and install them as Italy's representatives at the Football Frontier International. Of course, that meant getting rid of the current representatives, which would be easy for him. He injured more then half of the players and challenged them to a match against his team, whichever team won were the new representatives. And of course, he lost which meant that he had to coach the current team. They didn't trust him though, and told him to sit on the bench quietly until the match was over. Though, one boy, the captain, was interested in Kageyama, wanted to know why he was so evil.

Which brings me to my next point in saying that Kageyama isn't as hateful as he thinks he is. Fideo Aldena was curious as to what happened to have Kageyama's heart covered in darkness. He looked what he could up and with the help of Italy's previous captain, he found alarming information. Kageyama was trying to teach his team how to play soccer like his father, subconsciously. That meant that Kageyama didn't hate soccer, or his father, he simply wanted to see those amazing plays be used again. He didn't want his father's style to die out. Upon realizing this, Fideo studied a video with Tougo's plays and practiced them until they were perfect. The next match with Japan, he used those plays to open Kageyama's eyes. And Reiji realized it himself: he didn't hate soccer or his father, he loved them. Realizing that gave him a small change of heart and he told his team to play fairly for the rest of the match. But, it doesn't stop there. We also find out that during one of Kageyama's attempts to lay a trap on a soccer team, he had injured a little girl who wasn't involved with soccer at all. The guilt from that was crushing him, he tried to do what he could to make up for it. He sent her letters, and gifts, and he visited her often. That's when he found out that she had a disease that made her loose her eyesight. Kageyama then knew what he had to do to stop himself from feeling so guilty; he paid for the surgery to fix the girl's eyes. During the soccer match with Italy and Japan, Rushe was well enough to visit Kageyama, and he was happy to see her well, but also mad that she was there. Because after the match, he was going to turn himself in to the police once and for all and he didn't want her to know that.

After he turned himself in, we find out that he had been working underneath someone even more vile and powerful then he, someone named Mr. Garshield. He knew that Garshield didn't want him telling the police about his plans, so he was prepared for anything to happen. He handed a detective a gift for Rushe silently, knowing that he won't be able to give it to her himself. And he was right. After they made it to the police station, he looked up to the sky and smiled, stating that he had never seen the sky so blue before.

That was the last thing he said before he was run down by one of Garshield's trucks, killing him almost immediately.

Personality:
Kageyama is almost always portrayed in some sort of darkness. His arms crossed, eyes hidden behind dark glasses, face covered in shadows. That darkness is reflected in the way he holds himself - he's cold and calculating, silent and stoic. Dark, and strong. He reacts to everything with a cool head and a calm expression - nothing can surprise him, and he rids himself of anything that proves to be a nuisance or an obstacle. This holds true, no matter how much of a change of heart he goes through; he will react to anything negative strongly and stoically, making sure to get rid of it before it gets in his way. Even now, he won't allow anything to get in the path of his plans - be they good or evil. And he does this well, of course; Kageyama is an extremely intelligent man, and though his plans can be a bit convoluted at times, they never fall through unless he purposely leaves an opening. That said, if his plans involve the death or mortal injury of someone, he will leave an opening - he has done so every time this came up in the series, aside from the time he rigged the Inazuma Eleven's bus as a child. He has spent his life living in hatred, and only just began to pull himself out of it.

All of that in consideration, Kageyama isn't evil through and through - he's a flawed and deeply scarred human being, one who is just only beginning to forgive himself along with others. He has a kind side, despite not using it often, and his own soft spots - he cares deeply for children despite what he has done to them throughout his life. He stays cordial with people he hasn't met before, and he makes sure to stay polite if they aren't an irritant in his life. Even teenagers, he treats with respect. Of course, he's a normal person like everyone else, too - he enjoys his hobbies and being social with other people, and if he likes someone, he enjoys their company and wants them to stay safe and healthy. And even though prolonged social interaction can irritate him, he will keep it up out of the need to be polite.

This said, however, Kageyama is still a recuperating villain - he has never been treated or regarded with kindness aside from Rushe and Fideo, and even then, those were both different. He will be very awkward with friendships and kind interaction, and will attempt to be nice in return though it's highly likely it will end up failing and making him sound creepy hahaha. He'll fumble with how to interact with kindness, how to react to others who treat him nicely, and just generally being a good person. Little kids, though, are going to get special treatment - he's always wanted to be a father deep down, so he has a huge soft spot for them.

Abilities:
Just like the others in Inazuma's world, Kageyama is capable of using Hissatsu Techniques - specialty moves that are able to be used off the field as well. Not only that, but as a former member of the legendary Inazuma Eleven, it's easy to infer his are better - more powerful - than those of the current Raimon Eleven; especially being as old and experienced as he is. ... Despite being in his fifties, he's rather strong.
The only one we know he is capable of using is the forbidden Koutei Penguin no. 1 - as he is the one who taught it to both Kidou and Sakuma.
